Welcome to the Kriol Bible project website The Old and New Testament are now available to Aboriginal people in Kriol. For the first time, the old and new Testaments are now available to aboriginal people thanks to a dedicated group of people who have spent 27 years on the translations project. The Bible translation from Genesis through to Revelation, was undertaken by a group of Aboriginal Christians and missionaries in the Northern Territory with support from organisations such as The Bible Society, Lutheran Bible Translators, The Church Missionary Society of Australia, The Anglican Church Diocese of NT, Australian Society for Indigenous Languages and Wycliffe Bible Translators. Kriol, an Australian Creole language developed out of contact between European settlers and the indigenous people in the northern regions of Australia, is presently spoken by 30,000 people across the Top End. This project has now been completed and a special event was held in the Northern Territory on May 5th to celebrate this translation.
